Hotel Review: Pan Pacific Singapore (Skyline Suite)

After a short hiatus away from my favourite hotel in Singapore, the Pan Pacific Singapore, I revisited the property once again this month for a staycation. This is my fifth visit to the Pan Pacific Singapore and I have always stayed in the Harbour Studio which offers 46sqm of living space alongside fantastic views of the harbour from high floors. In my opinion, the Deluxe and Deluxe Balcony rooms are rather unattractive and thus, you should only consider rooms/suites from Panoramic onwards.

There are many reasons why I love this hotel. For sentimental reasons, I remember spending time here with my family (yes, I started staycations at a young age) when I was a lot younger. Also, the Edge restaurant offers excellent buffet breakfast and I am a huge breakfast fan. 

Being the fifth time at this property, my stay at the Pan Pacific Singapore was extra special as I stayed in a Skyline Suite instead of the usual Harbour Studio rooms. The Skyline Suite was 79 sqm (33 sqm more than the Harbour Studio) in size and they are designed with separate living areas. The check-in process took place in the suite itself. An attentive staff member accompanied me to the suite and showed me around before she proceeded with the check-in process. A refundable deposit was taken from my credit card for incidentals as usual. 

Being a Platinum GHA member, I was given a late check-out at 2pm and a platinum amenity (a box of chocolate truffles). Although the GHA program does not operate on a points system where you are encouraged to spend more (since these eligible spends accrue points), it is still a fairly decent program that is highly achievable - 10 eligible nights per year. Alongside the box of chocolate truffles, I was also given a card that details the Pacific Club Privileges.

I can't emphasise how important I think it is for hotels to include a simple card like that for all executive level guests. Having a simple card detailing the breakfast and cocktail times will be extremely beneficial for executive guests. 

A basic Nespresso Pixie machine can also be found in the minibar area of the suite. Nespresso coffee is probably the best instant coffee you can get (keeping the ease of usage in mind). While I do enjoy my single origin coffees, it is unlikely that you will find something that is as convenient as this. There's also a fully stocked minibar for those of you who are on a corporate account or are just simply too tired to get a drink elsewhere. 

The living area allows you to entertain your guests or friends while maintaining the privacy of your bedroom. There's also an attached power room should they wish to use the restroom. The beige sofa also extends out to be a sofa bed if some of your guests decide to stay over (just remember to inform the front office regarding the number of guests). 

The living area has a 37" LCD Smart TV that synchronises wirelessly to your personal mobile devices (via Bluetooth). Holding on to the Bluetooth button located in a panel below the TV will allow you to pair your mobile device with the TV system. Streaming music from Spotify is an absolute breeze. There's also a DVD player with a Bose surround-sound system for those that have not discovered the beauty of downloading movies. 

The Skyline Suite that I stayed in, faces the city and was a refreshing change to the usual Singapore harbour view that I get with the Harbour Studio. Those of you familiar to Singapore will be able to recognise the Swissôtel The Stamford, Suntec City and Marina Mandarin amongst many other iconic buildings in the area.

The full length window also continues in the bedroom, offering a wide-ranging view of the surroundings. 

The bedroom has a King-sized bed alongside some complimentary water which you can easily replenish by pushing a button on the phone next to the bed. In fact, you can request for turndown service (and water) with the push of the button - without speaking to anyone at all! The bedroom also came with a 37" LCD TV (there are two in this suite) so you can enjoy your favourite television program while you laze in bed. 

You can access the walk-in wardrobe from the bedroom which also leads to your bathroom. The walk-in wardrobe can also be accessed by a separate door in case you have wedding guests coming in to change and you would like to maintain the privacy of your room. The wardrobe area is sizeable and definitely allows for a small family to live here on a short-term basis. There's also a table by the side where you're able to get some work done. 

The spacious marble bathroom features Hans Grohe fittings, a walk-in rain shower and a big Kaldewei bathtub. For those of you unfamiliar with Kaldewei, it is a company that was founded in Germany in 1918 which focuses on luxury and timeless bathtubs. 

Even though the Harbour Studios came with Elemis amenities primarily, the Skyline Suite had a mixture of the former and also superb bath amenities from The White Company - similar to the ones provided in Crowne Plaza Changi Airport. 

I chose the Edge restaurant over the Pacific Club's champagne breakfast in the morning because seriously, who's going to stomach champagne in the morning? Besides, I simply cannot resist the variety offered at the Edge restaurant. I know I must have mentioned this a couple of times already but the choice and selection at Edge for breakfast is amazing. 

Simple things that other hotels do are done to perfection - crisp hashbrowns and streaky bacon. There's also a multitude of other food offerings that include (but not limited to) at least three dishes each from the following cuisines: Indonesian, Indian, Japanese, Chinese and Western. There's also a fresh fruit juice counter, an extensive salad and fruits station as well as a range of different cheese and bread that one can choose to enjoy (certainly not me). 

For the young at heart, there's also a dessert counter where you can make your own ice-cream. I made mine with strawberry ice cream, toasted almonds, hundreds and thousands as well as some unidentified spherical condiments. Amongst other kinds of desserts (e.g. Waffles), there were also Chinese desserts such as tofu pudding. 

My stay at the Skyline Suite was an amazing one and one that I hope to revisit again sometime soon. Like always, my stay at the Pan Pacific was nothing short of perfection. The staff are friendly and attentive, the rooms are beautiful and the food is excellent. The Pacific Club lounge will be featured as an addendum to this article sometime in the near future.
