First Look at Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore
My First Take on Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore
The Shutterwhale is honoured to have been invited to attend the media tour of the Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore and her launch party later that evening. While I have not actually stayed in the hotel yet, I am genuinely surprised (in the best way possible) by the quality of products and the level of energy that Hotel Jen brings to the hotel industry in Singapore.
I arrived at Orchardgateway early and spent a good five minutes looking for the hotel before I decided to muster enough courage to ask a friendly looking security personnel where the entrance to the hotel was (it was actually just metres away from where I was!). If you are one of the lucky ones who got the opportunity to stay at this hotel, proceed to level ten for check-in.
The check-in area is relaxed and contemporary. Unlike some hotels in the area with a rather rigid and predictable check-in area, Hotel Jen Orchardgateway offers a huge space (and great views) for you to wait patiently in line. I have to warn you though, the man clad in turquoise skin and only a tight pair of trunks will not be there permanently (he's really just there for the media tour) so don't get overly excited. What you should get excited over instead, is the quality of accommodation you are getting and the range of impressive facilities that this property has!
The Premier Panorama rooms are 41 sqm in size and they are the largest (and arguably the best) rooms in this new property. The room offers expansive views of either Orchard or Somerset and its surrounding areas through large glass windows. It comes with an extremely comfortable looking king-sized or twin beds as well as a separate bath and shower area. Unfortunately lying in this fluffy looking bed was not part of the tour so I can't vouch for them yet - another time perhaps!
The Premier Panorama room comes with a separate bathtub (as mentioned before) and this room that I visited overlooks the outdoor terrace of the all-day restaurant, Makan @ Jen. If I am not mistaken, there's also one of those vanishing mirror LCDs that you see on TV in this bathroom (they are real!).
The Deluxe Rooms are approximately 32 sqm in size and they too have a separate bath and shower area. These rooms also come with a cushy area by the window where you can sit and sip tea while watching the world go by (or simply read a book, whichever you prefer).
The Superior Room is the smallest of all three major room configurations and it is roughly 27 sqm in size. That being said, the only downside in this room for me is the lack of a bathtub. If you're a supporter of sustainable living and green tourism, that shouldn't matter anyway! This room comes with the same cushy area that allows you to lounge around and take in all the fantastic sights. All rooms come with complimentary WiFi and access to PressReader (which allows you to download over 2,500 newspaper and publications from different countries at no cost).
Bath amenities are provided as well so you do not have to worry about bringing yours. Staying at Jen Hotel Orchardgateway Singapore is as stress-free as it can be and the staff seems to be always willing and happy to make your day better.
The all-day dining restaurant is located on level 10 and it is open from 630am to 10pm daily. This is also where your buffet breakfast is served if your room rate comes inclusive with breakfast. While the weather in Singapore is largely humid and warm, I particularly like the outdoors seating area which can be nice in the evening or the night.
The outdoor terrace allows for different seating configurations that can be moved easily to accommodate large and small groups of guests. In any case, the outdoor area promotes a relaxed environment which may encourage travellers to indulge in conversations amongst each other.
The Lounge @ Jen is the perfect place to get some work done if you're travelling for business. For hotel guests with lounge access, cocktails and canapés are served in the evening. If your room does not come with lounge access, pay only S$40++ a day per person to gain access to this wonderful area. Indulge in spectacular views from the top while sipping (unlimited) wine in the evening. Besides, alcohol in Singapore can be pretty expensive so S$40++ is really quite a small sum to pay!
The open-air Zen Garden provides a comfortable environment for you to work or relax in should you get tired of air-conditioning for some reason (why would you?!). This space, alongside other spaces throughout the property, is also available for celebrations and events.
There's a 24-hour Fitness Centre for all you fitness buffs out there. If you're not using the amazing rooftop pool, come on down to the Fitness Centre where you can even cycle outdoors to really break out a sweat! Just one thing to take note though! This is also an area where hotel guests can come up for a smoke so be selective on the times you chose to ride the bike - it wouldn't be wise to be choking up on secondhand smoke.
I couldn't really get a nice view of the pool due to the launch party that was happening but I assure it it looks a hundred times better when the area is empty. Watch out Marina Bay Sands, this pool will hurt you (and your business)! With a team so strong at Hotel Jen Orchardgateway, big players need to thread carefully or this new kid on the block will be hottest place to be at in no time.
The media tour of Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore has been amazing. Having been to a large number of hotels in Singapore, I can safely say that this is a property with huge potential to excel. The room quality seems to be excellent and the design is playful, bold yet contemporary at the same time. While it does not have a uniform colour theme across the whole hotel, the colours do work and do not pass off as being distasteful or chaotic. The textures of design and fabric were well thought out and the level of detail permeates through the property. I am personally extremely excited to see what else Hotel Jen has to offer on a global level.
Until then, I've got my eyes on you Jen!
