Hotel Review: Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road
There is a certain peacefulness and calmness associated to Serviced Apartments that I do not usually find in hotels (with some exceptions like the Mandarin Oriental, Singapore). I have previously checked out the Pan Pacific Orchard Road Serviced Suites and fell in love with it completely - although part of the love probably came from carving a temporary home out of the apartment.
Unlike the Pan Pacific Orchard Road Serviced Suites, the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road is different in many ways. While the former property is located in a more happening district of Singapore, the latter property offers a multitude of living experiences that you may not necessarily experience. For starters, the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road actually has a hotel license and this means you can actually do a weekend staycation here. Even though there is no one week minimum stay requirement here at the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road, there is usually a 2-night stay policy that is set in place.
The Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road is located a stroll away from Bugis MRT station (approximately 15 minutes). Not being located on top of an MRT station like the sister property means you will have more privacy, a quieter surrounding and more importantly, time away from the hustle and bustle of the city that we all so desperately need. In fact, if you are familiar with the location of the PARKROYAL on Beach Road (where I very recently checked out the newly refurbished Premier Rooms), the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road is located just next to it!
There are four main suites that you can choose to stay in at the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road and they are namely the One Bedroom Deluxe, Executive and Premium Suites as well as the Two Bedroom Premium Suite. The rates range from S$350+ to S$850+ a night at BAR but I have seen much more enticing rates especially when the booking window gets smaller. However even then for S$350+ a night, you are getting a lot of bang for your buck if you intend spend ample time in your suite (perfect for us staycation-goers!).
I stayed in a One Bedroom Premium Suite which is 45 sqm in size. Even though it may sound tiny at only 45 sqm, I can guarantee that it has everything you need and more (except a bathtub - much like the Pan Pacific Orchard Road Serviced Suites)! The One Bedroom Premium Suite comes with a king-sized bed (or twin beds if you require), a separate and tastefully done up living area, dining area, a fully-equipped kitchen as well as complimentary high-speed internet access. There are no reasonable limitations to the number of devices you can connect so fret not if like me, you have multiple phones, tablets and laptop to give life to.
The first thing you will notice as you enter your suite is how spacious it actually feels. Despite being only 45 sqm in size (which I was a little skeptical initially myself), the tall glass windows and openness of the Premium Suite truly helped to create living space everywhere. I also absolutely adored the contemporary design and clean lines within the serviced suite.
The kitchen (probably one of my favourite parts of this serviced suite) comes with two induction cookers, full-sized fridge, oven, Nespresso coffee machine, water kettle, a washing basin as well as plates and cutlery. Even though the serviced suite came with only enough plates and cutlery for two, you should be able to get concierge to sort it out should you require more for your guests.
If you are thinking of whetting up a delicious home-cooked meal for your friends and family, the oven definitely comes in handy. You will also find a washer-cum-dryer in the kitchen - like I said, it may seem small but the use of partitioned space is ingenious!
The One Bedroom Premium Suite also comes equipped with small kitchen appliances like a bread toaster and rice-cooker so your carbohydrate needs to go unnoticed! Apart from the usual pots and pans that you would expect to find, you will also find a glass dish for baking as well as a strainer for your vegetables.
The One Bedroom Premium Suite comes equipped with two LCD televisions stocked up generously with local as well as cable channels. The living room in the One Bedroom Premium Suite also comes with a Blu-ray DVD player and a Samsung Soundbar which actually sounds much better than the Sonos ones that I have heard. There is also plenty of space here to rest and relax (or host your guests).
In case you are wondering about that view that comes with the One Bedroom Premium Serviced Suites, this is it. This is literally what you see as you relax on the sofa in the living room. Watching the Singapore Flyer and Gardens by the Bay light up in the evening while you enjoy a glass of wine (optional, of course) in the comfort on your own suite is absolutely priceless - except in this case of course, you can actually put a price tag on it.
Finally, the most important part of any accommodation (even though some travelers like me may argue it's the bathroom), the bedroom. Not only does the bedroom share the same view from the living room, there is also an additional glass panel which gives you a expansive view of the city (limited to corner rooms only). There is also a LCD television in the bedroom so you can switch between watching something entertaining on TV and the breathtaking views of the city in the evening.
If you have a keen eye for detail, you would have already noticed a box of luxurious Molton Brown amenities on the bed. Longer-staying guests can expect to find a complimentary box of this premium bath amenity in healthy sizes (100ml) as you check into your room. Like the other Pan Pacific properties in Singapore, 'em-brace' bath amenities are provided by the Vanity Group and they will be replaced whenever your room is refreshed (or when you ask for it really).
If you have plenty of clothes, the One Bedroom Premium Suite has ample space in storing them. However, if for some reason you do run out space for your clothes (which could only mean one thing - you have too much), there are also cabinets and drawers outside in the living area that you can use. The bedroom also comes with a sizeable work desk with a power outlet located nearby for you to charge your power-hungry devices.
The bathroom isn't particularly big but it was actually a lot larger than I have expected. The bathroom is done up really nicely without any clutter and it comes with a rain-shower that is ever so important when visiting this country. As mentioned previously, the One Bedroom Premium Suites do not come equipped with a bathtub and if this is a deal-breaker for you, lucky you because some of the One Bedroom Deluxe Suites actually do come with a tub. Also, since they are lower-tier suites, you actually have to pay less for them. What's the trade-off then you ask? The killer view that comes with the Premium Suites.
Similar to the Pan Pacific Orchard Road Serviced Suites, complimentary breakfast is served every day except for Sundays and Public Holidays. For those of you who do not already know, the Pan Pacific in my opinion, serves one of the best Eggs Benedict in Singapore. The Pacific Club where you have your breakfast is a lot more open at the Beach Road location and it does get pretty busy particularly towards the end of the meal service so if you want some peace and quiet, I will definitely suggest coming down early.
The food (those on offer as well as those made-to-order) at the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road also rotates on a daily basis (although popular favourites like the Eggs Benedict stays) to make sure that the guests do not get bored of the selection. In fact, I was lucky enough to have this piping hot bowl of ddukbokki (Korean rice cake) done up for me when I was there.
No stay is complete in Singapore without devoting some time to the Sun (when it isn't raining) and the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road give you a really good reason to do so.
Located on the roof level is the wellness floor of the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road. Even though it doesn't come with bells and whistles like her sister property, what you do get is an amazing pool with a crazy view. My personal recommendation? Head up to the roof with a bottle of wine and watch as the sky turns dark.
Otherwise, head into the gym and do some reps while waiting for the sun to set. The gym overlooks the swimming pool and Singapore flyer on one side and offers partial views of the Arab St area. There are also plenty of free weights should you wish to work on your core muscles.
The gym may not be big but it certainly has every equipment you need for a full body workout. Also, the treadmills in the gym faces the Singapore Flyer so you can be sure of an awesome view while you work on those extra calories.
This view is exactly the reason why you have to head up here in the evening. The night view is simply incredible although I would highly recommend you not to swim after drinking. Otherwise, jump right in to the pool or sit by the edge and enjoy the relaxing water jets while you soak in the sights.
Also similar to my stay at the Pan Pacific Orchard Road Serviced Suites, there is a Living Room (a communal area for residents to rest and relax outside the confines of their own apartment) on Level Two. You will be able to make coffee (or tea!) and snack on biscuits while you indulge in a good book or challenge your friend in a game on the XBOX. While it isn't as impressive as the one in the Pan Pacific Orchard Road Serviced Suites, the Living Room at the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Beach Road is still a pleasant place to simply hang back and enjoy a lazy afternoon.
