Affordable New Set Lunches at mezza9 - Grand Hyatt Singapore
One of Singapore’s most dynamic dining venue, mezza9 at the Grand Hyatt Singapore has just announced a new set lunch. Available everyday of the week (except Sunday) from 12PM to 230PM, the new lunch menu will allow you to pick and choose from an array of appetisers, main courses and desserts to create your very own two-course or three-course set lunch depending on how hungry or indulgent you are feeling.
One of the things that the mezza9 do really well is the dedication to use sustainable seafood. For my choice of appetiser, I opted for the Chinese soup which during my visit, was the Old Cucumber Soup (this really is a direct translation of the Chinese soup - 老黄瓜汤). I also ordered the sustainable market fish (which changes from time to time, depending on the freshest product the restaurant can get hold of) as my main. I thought that the fish was done really well - it was fresh and grilled nicely before serving whole. It is worth nothing that the appetisers and main courses are served together. If you have selected a three-course lunch tray, desserts and coffee will be served separately.
The sashimi salad (served with chunks of fresh sashimi, seaweed, capelin roe and oba dressing) is also one of those dishes that are done consistently well - I love the sashimi to salad ratio in this dish! To complete the experience, opt for the sakura denbu chirashi where sustainable sashimi is served on a bed of delicious sushi rice - don't expect a kaisen-don here though because that's not what mezza9 will be serving.
While the set lunches do come with a choice of coffee or tea, you should also opt for the signature Lychee Iced Tea (not inclusive in the Set Lunch) if you are looking for a beverage to go with your meal. Just tell them to hold the syrup or put it on the side if you like your drinks unsweetened.
For dessert, I went ahead and ordered the mezza9 flower pot of the day. While I have eaten this on multiple occasions, I have not actually taken a proper photo of it until now. Firstly, I love the presentation of this dish - it is always a conversation starter. Secondly, (almost) every component of this dish is edible - the chocolate soil, the flowers, the delicious salted caramel ice cream underneath it and of course the mint leaves which I personally do not eat.
If I had to pick my favourite dessert however, it would have to be the baked fruit crumble with vanilla bean ice-cream. I love the subtle sweetness from the fruit tart but more importantly, the contrast in texture (and temperature) between the tart and the vanilla bean ice-cream. The other two dessert options are a little less exciting so I would definitely recommend this one if you do not know what to choose. A choice of coffee or tea is also included in the set lunch so it's actually really affordable.
Can’t decide? Go with the Chef’s choice of pre-selected lunch sets for a fuss-free afternoon - perfect for important business luncheons! The set lunches are also affordably priced (especially when you are a Club at the Hyatt member like me) at just S$32++ and S$42++ for a two-course and three-course lunch respectively.
