Crab Buffet (2016) at Plaza Brasserie (PARKROYAL on Beach Road)
The annual crab feast at the PARKROYAL on Beach Road's Plaza Brasserie is back from 06 May 2016 to 26 June 2016. For the fifth year running, crab-lovers will be able to dig in to unlimited servings of crabs done in 8 different ways this year. This is on top of the spread at Plaza Brasserie and the special crab feast is available for dinner (and Sunday lunch).
In addition to the six favourite flavours from yesteryear, Executive Chef Jackson Goh has introduced two new signature flavours this year:
- Spanish Crab (New!)
- Mediterranean Crab (New!)
- Singapore Chilli Crab
- Cereal Crab
- Salted Egg Yolk Crab
- Black Pepper Crab
- White Pepper Crab
- Crab with Honey Rock Sugar
Sampling the crabs is tough work but the restaurant has done most of the difficult parts for you - the crabs have all been chopped up and the shells have mostly been cracked so you can actually eat this in a controlled manner. That being said, I wish the restaurant provided a bib or at least more serviettes as I was frantically looking for more halfway through the crabs.
If I had to pick my favourite crab flavour, it will have to be the White Pepper Crab where the succulent crab meat is paired with crushed white peppercorn, garlic as well as the sweet and salty flavours from the cane sugar and oyster sauce. In fact, I liked it so much I actually googled for a recipe and found the exact one that Executive Chef Jackson Goh uses here!
“The Ultimate Crab Feast” at Plaza Brasserie (PARKROYAL on Beach Road) is one of the most highly-anticipated buffets in Singapore and it is also complemented with a "Best of Asia" buffet spread which features crab-inspired dishes like the Crab Meat Balls with Potato, Curry Crab Meat in Kueh Pie Tee, Crab Meat Chawanmushi, Spicy Crab Meat Salad and Breaded Crab Cake amongst other delicious dishes.
Fish lovers will also be able to order unlimited servings of steamed fresh garoupa (or grouper). While the spread at Plaza Brasserie is not extensive like edge at the Pan Pacific Singapore, I thought that it was quite impressive and the dishes presented were all done pretty well.
Even though the different crabs took center stage at Plaza Brasserie's buffet spread, I did enjoy snacking on the simpler dishes (including the soft shell crab!) which required less work. Did I also mention that you will be able to enjoy unlimited servings of roasted duck and pork?
When you are finally done with feasting on the crabs (remember it is probably better to go during dinner since it runs for four hours), be sure to give the signature Durian Prata a go - the prata station is located near the Indian section (it's easy to miss unless you look out for it!).
