Hotel Review: Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore (One-bedroom Executive Apartment) - Luxurious Apartment in the CBD
The Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore is one of the latest luxury serviced apartment to open in Singapore. Following its official opening back in June 2017, the serviced apartment is open in OUE Downtown 1 along Shenton Way and it is home to 268 beautifully-appointed residences which include studios, one-bedroom as well as two-bedroom apartments. It is important to note that the Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore operates as a serviced apartment without a hotel license - what this means is that there is a minimum stay of seven nights.

I arrived at the Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore ahead of the official check-in time and was told that my apartment was not yet ready. As such, I left my mobile number with them before heading down to OUE Downtown for lunch - there are a handful of restaurants in the building and it is extremely peaceful on the weekends. I received a phone call as I was mid-way through lunch to inform me that my apartment was ready for check-in.
There are five categories of accommodation here at the Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore and I was booked into a One-bedroom Executive Apartment for the weekend. The apartment measuring 55sqm in size (slightly bigger since it is a corner unit) comes with a fully-equipped kitchen, dining area for four adults, living area, bedroom as well as a bathroom.
The kitchen here in the One-bedroom Executive Apartment has almost everything that you can dream of where a kitchen is concerned. Hidden away in the drawers and cabinets are pots and pans that you may require if you intend to cook during your stay. If you are looking for a supermarket nearby, check out the Cold Storage in Icon Village or the NTUC FairPrice at 100AM for all your grocery needs - both supermarkets are just a stroll away. Alternatively, check-out RedMart if you wish to have your groceries delivered to the serviced apartment.
Caffeine-addicts like me will also be pleased to find a Nespresso machine in the apartment - four coffee capsules are provided and additional coffee pods can be requested for S$2 per capsule or S$12 per 10 capsules. The Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore also provided premium teabags from Monogram Tea (created by the same folks behind the Gryphon Tea Company) - these are replenished upon request for free.
The living area here in the One-bedroom Executive Apartment is sizeable and it is perfect for two to four adults. There is a generous selection of cable and satellite channels in the TV here as well as the bedroom - if you have a gaming console, you can easily connect it to the TV for a greater gaming experience.
Tech-savvy travellers will also notice that the apartment is equipped with a number of modern conveniences like this Samsung R7 Bluetooth Sound System which is sometimes known as the 'dinosaur egg'. Connecting your devices to this speaker is easy and you can start steaming music or enjoy your favourite show on Netflix effortlessly.
The entire One-bedroom ExecutiveApartment has a rather 'boxy' layout and this is great when you wish to fully maximise a given space. Even though the apartment may be only 55sqm, it certainly feels a lot larger with the spacious layout. I really like the dining area of the apartment as it also double as a meeting or working area since there are power outlets that tucked away at the side of the wall.
There is a door that separates the bedroom and the living room which is great when you have friends over (and you do not want them prying into your bedroom!). With that being said, there is only one bathroom here in the One-bedroom Executive Apartment so your friends and family members will still have to walk through the bedroom in order to access the bathroom.
The bedroom of the One-bedroom Executive Apartment here at the Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore enjoys plenty of natural daylight - the windows offer a 270-degree panoramic view of the CBD as well as the harbour on the other side. As mentioned earlier, there is another TV here in the bedroom that has a wide selection of channels but more importantly, if you wish to connect to the WiFi in your apartment (each apartment has its own WiFi signal), the password is located on the router underneath the TV. In the event that you are completely jet-lagged and you wish to catch a wink during the day, roller blinds can be lowered (even though you do have to do them at each window panel) to sink the bedroom into pitch-darkness.
The bedroom is connected to a bathroom and located right behind the bedroom door is a wardrobe that is clever flushed away - there is plenty of space here for you to hang your clothes and to put your personal belongings so long-staying guests do not have to worry. Apart from the bedroom, ample storage space can also be found throughout the apartment - near the entrance, under the bed and the TV console outside just to name a few.
If you are lucky enough to be staying in a One-bedroom Executive Apartment that is located on a higher floor, you will get to enjoy a partial view of the harbour as well as the container terminal in Tanjong Pagar (which makes for an interesting time-lapse video on a weekday).
Complimentary bottled water is also provided in the room but the water from the taps are potable - you may also choose to boil them if you wish to have an ease of mind. The king-size bed in my apartment is especially comfortable and the fluffy pillows actually provide amply neck support for a good night's rest.
You should be able to control most of the lights from the panel next to the bed and if you wish to charge your mobile phone while you sleep, there is a USB charging port located by the side of the bed. There is also a power outlet located here so if like me, you enjoy writing or working on your laptop in bed, you do not have to worry about running out of juice. With all that being said, I was surprised to see that the power outlet was not a universal one - perhaps a universal adapter should be provided in each room? While I do believe that a simple call to the front desk may rectify this problem, weary travellers are often not motivated enough to do so when they are tired.
While I personally preferred to work from the dining table in the apartment (since it is larger and there are power sockets available), there is also a small work desk located in the bedroom - you will find things like basic stationery as well as a reading lamp here.
What is perhaps more interesting is the provision of a Samsung mobile phone and tablet that you can use during your stay at Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore. If you are first-time visitor to Singapore, you will find a number of recommendations and helpful tips on the tablet - you can also retrieve information about the property and find out more about your surroundings with a dedicated app.
The bathroom here at the One-bedroom Executive Apartment is a dream and it is exactly how I want my future bathroom to look like. Now the only thing lacking here is a bathtub so if that is a dealbreaker for you, the Two-bedroom Apartment here at the Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore has one. Otherwise, check out those masculine and dark walls in the bathroom - and that view!
Unlike hotels that typically provide you with bath amenities in a 30ml or 50ml bottle, expect to find a larger bottle size here (the minimum stay is 7-nights after all). Similar to what you would expect from a luxury property, these bath amenities (provided by Imperial Barber) are replaced as and when you are running low (or when you run out) so feel free to use them as you wish.
During my stay at the Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore, I had access to The Oakwood Executive Club which is an add-on membership for in-house guests. Regardless of which accommodation type you book, the default booking does not come with access to The Oakwood Executive Club. Now I guess it is safe to think about it as a club lounge that you would typically find in business hotels - eligible residents are able to enjoy complimentary evening cocktails and canapés, bedtime snacks and also prosecco breakfasts in the morning.
At the time of writing, access to The Oakwood Executive Club is available at S$75++ per day or S$750++ per month. Assuming you are staying here at the Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore for a month, S$750++ is a steal since it works out to just S$25++ per day for free-flowing drinks in the evening (and prosecco in the morning).
While the selection of food during the evening cocktails is not extensive, it is certainly sufficient for a light meal. In fact, I decided to skip dinner after having a couple of samosas, mee goreng and satays from the club.
If you love an evening tipple of two, you will enjoy the selection of beverages here at The Oakwood Executive Club - the staff who mends the club during these hours will be able to conjure up a poison of your choice. Alternatively, you will also find a number of wines here in the club lounge if you prefer to stay with grape varietals.
While I did not manage to use the swimming pool during my stay here at the Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore, it does look really inviting. If you are staying here on a weekday, the pool is somewhat an oasis from the hustle and bustle of the CBD. If you are here on a weekend, you will enjoy the quiet that is hard to find in Singapore - the CBD is really peaceful on weekends! In case you do not already know, The Oakwood Executive Club is located right next to the pool so residents with access to the club are also welcome to take the beverages outside and enjoy it by the pool as well - way to live good life!
Since I had access to the The Oakwood Executive Club, I had the option of having breakfast at either the club or at the property's all-day dining restaurant, Se7enth (which also opens to public for lunch and dinner at the moment). I decided to go with the latter option since I have spent at least two hours at the club the previous evening. While the breakfast spread at Se7enth is modest, it is done rather well - those hash browns are crispy on the outside and moist on the insides!
Halfway through my breakfast, one of the staff actually brought me an a la carte breakfast menu (a privilege for residents with access to The Oakwood Executive Club) that I could order from - I opted for both the ham & cheese toasties as well as an eggs benedict that were both delicious. I also ordered some (additional) hash browns on the side but they brought out way too many that I may or may not have finished.
While I am typically subscribed to the benefits of a global hotel loyalty program, I have been to a fair share of serviced apartments throughout the years - mostly for business when I appreciate the flexibility of being able to not only cook but to do your own laundry as well. Out of all the serviced apartments that I have stayed in in Singapore, the Oakwood Premier OUE Singapore comes up top of the list for me. The hard product itself sells on its own - the apartments are luxuriously finished and the colour scheme is understated, masculine and modern all at the same time. What stood out for me more however was the service that was being rendered here during my stay - serviced residences are never known to be as good as luxury hotels where service is concerned and they are typically not expected to be.
