Smoke & Mirrors Imposes S$20 Minimum Spend for Complimentary Cocktail with American Express Platinum Card

American Express Platinum Members (including those holding credit card versions) have long been getting either a complimentary welcome drink or 1-for-1 beverages at selected bars in Singapore via the Chillax programme. Late last year, four new bars from the JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach have been added to this growing list. In view of the 2019 contract renewals, Smoke & Mirrors now imposes a S$20++ minimum spend requirement before an American Express Platinum Member can take advantage of the Chillax benefits.

Smoke & Mirrors at the National Gallery Singapore has always been a little bit of an odd child - it is the only bar in the Chillax programme that has 'blackout dates' (e.g. eve of Public Holidays, Public Holidays as well as special occasions determined by the merchant). This year, the bar has started imposing a minimum spend of S$20++ before an American Express Platinum Member can redeem for a complimentary cocktail. In all honesty, a cocktail here will definitely hit the minimum spend requirement but it is certainly interesting to see how much leeway this bar has in terms of deviating from the 'norm'. I would be monitoring the rest of the bars over the next couple of days and will definitely call out any special conditions associated to these offers.
