How to Apply for the Citi Rewards Mastercard (And Why I Think You Should) - Yes, It Has to Do with the GrabPay Mastercard

Everyone knows the Citi Rewards Visa Card - it gives you 10X Rewards (which translates into 4 miles per dollar) on all eligible shopping (online and offline) as well as online purchases - the number of 10X points that you can earn is capped at 10,000 each month (S$1,000 = 4,000 miles). SingSaver is currently running a promotion where you can sign-up for the Citi Rewards Visa Card to get S$250 Cash (transferred to you via PayNow) and also the opportunity to win S$1,000 in the weekly lucky draws.

Back in June, I wrote about how Grab partnered up with GovTech for MyInfo integration as well as the targeted offer for some users to sign-up for a virtual GrabPay Mastercard. Today, more and more users can sign-up for the (virtual) GrabPay Mastercard and having a Citi Rewards Card gives you the opportunity to earn 4 miles per dollar on GrabPay top-ups. While I have not seen an official notice by Citi regarding this, many users have already reported success with getting 4 miles per dollar (up to S$1,000 each month) GrabPay wallet top-ups.

Now, some of you may already know that Citi and Grab announced the launch of a co-branded Citi-Grab credit card across Southeast Asia back in July this year - the card is already available in the Philippines and it is expected to launch in Thailand soon. Citi Priority clients in Thailand for example, are able to enjoy a Grab cash rebate of up to THB 1,000 every 6 months when they make eligible Grab transactions on their Citi Priority Debit Mastercard or Citi Credit Card. While I have not heard anything regarding a co-branded credit card here in Singapore, some users have reportedly gotten an EDM which states that 10X Rewards will now apply (officially) to ride-hailing transactions too.

The Citi Rewards Visa Card is a great card and there is no reason why you should not get it (especially since new customers get S$250 cash as well as the chance to win S$1,000 in cash) but the monthly cap of S$1,000 (for 10X Rewards) make it slightly restrictive for most users. What a lot of people do not realise however is that they can actually get a second Citi Rewards Card - the Citi Rewards Mastercard is no longer marketed on Citi's website but it can still be obtained via this unique referral link. As you can imagine, the Citi Rewards Mastercard is very similar to the Visa version but it comes with a separate limit on the number of 10X Rewards that you can earn each month. Applying for both the Citi Rewards Visa Card and the Citi Rewards Mastercard will give allow you to earn 10X Rewards on up to S$2,000 each month.

The annual fee for both cards are waived for the first year and if you are new to Citi, you may choose to apply first for the Citi Rewards Visa Card to get S$250 Cash or apply for either using my Citi referral link to get 27,000 bonus points (equivalent to 10,800 miles) when you spend S$3,000 in the first 3 months of card approval. If you prefer the S$250 cash, sign-up using the SingSaver link and if you prefer getting 10,000 miles, use my Citi referral link. The GrabPay Mastercard opens up a world of possibilities for most (virtual) cardholders since it means that every eligible transaction that you charge to the virtual card earns up 4 miles per dollar (if you have reloaded your wallet using one of the Citi Rewards Cards) as well as points on GrabRewards (up to 10 per SGD).
