World of Hyatt is currently running a 30% discount on point purchases of 5,000 or more, through 30 December 2021. As you may already know, World of Hyatt has recently implemented peak and off-peak award pricing (which was initially planned for 2020) so this 30% discount can potentially help save you some money if you redeem these points wisely.

World of Hyatt members can purchase up to 55,000 points every calendar year and during promotional windows, a discount or bonus (on the number of purchased points) may be offered from time to time. Members can currently enjoy a 30% discount on all point purchases of 5,000 or more when they transact before the end of 30 December 2021. If you are a Globalist member, you can share your elite status benefits (e.g. space-available suite upgrades, lounge access, and 4 PM late check-out) when you book award stays for your family and friends - you will not need to be there physically to extend this Guest of Honor benefit.
World of Hyatt points are typically priced at USD 24 per block of 1,000 points (2.4 cents each) but under this promotion, you will be able to purchase them at USD 16.80 per block of 1,000 points (1.68 cents each). While it is great to have plenty of points in your account since it allows you to redeem for free award stays, it is important to also have a rough plan for them. There are some instances where award stays make plenty of sense (especially when your travel plans align), but you should always consider how much value you can extract from them before making the purchase.
The Park Hyatt Kyoto is a great example to look at - as a Category 7 property, the number of points required for a free night is as follows - the value in brackets represents the cost of acquiring these points now, with the 30% discount factored in:
Off-peak: 25,000 Points per Night (USD 420)
Standard: 30,000 Points per Night (USD 504)
Peak: 35,000 Points per Night (USD 588)
An award night at the Park Hyatt Kyoto comes with a rather generous cancellation policy - 48 hours prior - but the cheapest 'Book Now & Save 15%' cash rate comes with a 14-day prior cancellation policy. Now the cheapest rate that I can find on a given weekend in April 2022 comes in at about USD 1,566 before applicable taxes - this increases up to USD 1,998 with all applicable taxes factored in. The very same night will only require 35,000 World of Hyatt points which you can purchase at USD 588 - this represents over 70% of savings in cash! Not only is an award night significantly cheaper, but it also comes in at a much cheaper rate if you were to purchase World of Hyatt points now with the 30% discount! A cash rate with a comparable 48-hour cancellation policy comes in at USD 2,347 per night so using your points actually saves you 75% off in this case.
There are many instances where award stays make complete sense at high-end properties but you may also utilise them at lower Category properties if you were to time them well. For example, the Studios at Alila Seminyak in Bali is a Category 1 property so you will need the following number of points for the respective periods:
Off-peak: 3,500 Points per Night (USD 58.80)
Standard: 5,000 Points per Night (USD 84)
Peak: 6,500 Points per Night (USD 109.20)
A refundable rate at the Studios at Alila Seminyak in Bali is usually priced around USD 200 (even on off-peak dates) so you can enjoy 70% savings on these stays when you purchase these points at a 30% discount. Now if you are based in Singapore, the Amaze Card (free to sign-up) will allow you to link a Mastercard which will allow you to avoid any foreign-currency transaction charge and earn an additional 1% cashback on top of your credit card points.
TRIBE Living Bangkok Sukhumvit 39 is a great value choice for budget-conscious travelers but its slightly longer walk from Phrom Phong BTS Station may make it less convenient compared to more accessible (but pricier) options in the area.
